Hiut
Brand Identity

Jul 2026
The brand identity for Hiut Denim is a masterclass in industrial storytelling, blending the rugged precision of manufacturing with an elevated, editorial aesthetic. By leveraging a cinematic visual language, the project captures the tactile soul of the brand—from the high-speed motion of sewing machine needles to the quiet stillness of raw denim in an overcast coastal landscape. This comprehensive brand refresh, executed with design work from Pentagram, establishes a utilitarian yet soulful design vocabulary rooted in a minimalist, structured approach. The use of Founders Grotesk typography provides a clean, modern anchor against the warmth of natural light and raw material textures, such as the seasoned wood and metal of manual tools. Photography by Jess Ellis and Cat Garcia leans into an authentic, documentary style, utilizing high-contrast monochrome and analogue film techniques to emphasize the brand's commitment to durability and heritage. The integration of portraiture with macro imagery creates a holistic narrative that feels both precise and deeply human. By balancing deliberate motion blur with crisp graphic layouts, the identity communicates the speed of the factory floor alongside the introspective nature of the makers themselves. It is a refined, commercial study in how typography, light, and composition can define a brand's ethos as much as the products it creates, resulting in a cohesive identity that feels timeless, structured, and inherently purposeful.
