W Magazine China
Experience in Art

Mar 2026
W Magazine China pushes the boundaries of avant-garde visual storytelling in Experience in Art, a high-fashion editorial that treats the human form as a kinetic sculpture. Photographer Mauro Maglione captures this vision through a lens of precise editorial minimalism, utilizing studio strobe lighting to emphasize the graphic tension between the models and their highly curated environments. With styling by Jamie-Maree Shipton, the project leans into a bold, architectural aesthetic where structural garments like molded chest pieces and metallic silver coats dictate the visual flow. Art director Zipeng Li facilitates a sophisticated dialogue between costume and space, integrating paint-splatter motifs and reflective silver foil accents to build an abstract narrative that feels more akin to a gallery installation than a traditional spread. The meticulous work of hair stylist Shunsuke Meguro and makeup artist Claire Urquhart ensures the focus remains strictly on the interplay of shape and texture, while set designer Haruka Kogure transforms the studio backdrop into a stage for modern luxury. Models Edna Karibwami and Lisa Hageman navigate these challenging compositions with a sharp, poised intensity, grounding the complex wardrobe choices with a grounded yet ethereal presence. By blending sharp, high-contrast imagery with deliberate, fragmented compositions, the team successfully redefines contemporary luxury fashion, proving that effective editorial portraiture requires as much rigorous conceptual planning as it does technical photographic prowess.
