National Gallery of Canada · Brand Identity

The National Gallery of Canada revitalizes its institutional presence with a comprehensive brand identity system developed by AREA 17. The project establishes a cohesive visual language that transitions across digital and physical applications, from motion graphics and mobile interfaces to wide-format outdoor billboards and environmental signage. The design system leverages a minimalist aesthetic, pairing clean sans-serif typography with a versatile geometric emblem. Central to the identity is a modular layout grid that incorporates soft pastel color gradients and high-contrast black typography. This framework is applied across varied collateral including promotional merchandise, exhibition books, and social media templates. By balancing structured information systems with editorial photographic elements, the identity project aims to provide a unified institutional architecture for the gallery’s diverse programming.
