Backslash

Backslash · Brand Identity

The brand identity for Backslash serves as a comprehensive system spanning digital, print, and environmental applications. Developed by creative director and technologist Talia Cotton, with design and coding by Noah Schwadron and Chris Kim, and type design by Chris Kim, the project centres on a rigorous monochromatic aesthetic. The system utilises bold, angled geometric bars and custom sans-serif typography to establish a high-contrast visual language that remains consistent across varied formats. From responsive web interfaces and dynamic motion graphics to urban wheatpaste posters and physical goods, the design demonstrates the adaptability of the Backslash logotype. The identity thrives on its minimalist principles, using precision-cut vinyl, clean digital transitions, and custom iconography to maintain a cohesive structure. Whether animating on screen or integrated into architectural environments, the work focuses on the intersection of contemporary typography and functional graphic systems.
