The North Face: Brand Identity
Jan 2024
The North Face brand identity project recontextualizes the label's outdoor performance heritage through a multi-format design system. This work, developed with graphic design by The Collected Works, balances commercial fashion presentation with archival storytelling to document the 50-year evolution of the brand’s expedition parkas. The identity employs a structured grid system and bold typography to bridge technical apparel diagrams with emotive portraits of explorers such as Conrad Anker and Quannah Chasing Horse. Execution across print and digital media utilizes a mix of clean, minimalist layouts and cinematic imagery. Archival assets are integrated alongside contemporary product photography, utilizing techniques including monochrome art direction and analogue film grain to establish a sense of continuity between historical gear and modern output. The campaign spans subway digital signage, editorial publication spreads, and environmental displays, maintaining a consistent aesthetic language across diverse touchpoints.
