Telstra
Second Life Sounds BTS 60
Aug 2026
Telstra’s Second Life Sounds project stands as a masterful exploration of circular economy principles, transforming the bleak reality of e-waste into a vibrant narrative of renewal and innovation. This promotional video campaign serves as a public awareness initiative that documents the meticulous restoration of discarded consumer electronics, turning retired devices into fully functional audio technology. The visual language of the piece is starkly divided between the gloomy, low-key lighting found within the mounds of e-waste and the sharp, high-key lighting that characterizes the restoration process. Through precise live-action techniques, the cinematography lingers on the intimate details of circuit board repair, emphasizing the human element in salvaging technology. Produced by Revolver and featuring an evocative soundscape crafted by Sonar Music and The Avalanches, the project leans into a cinematic aesthetic that elevates the technical subject matter. Motion graphics featuring pulsating oscilloscope readouts provide a rhythmic pulse that mirrors the transformation of scrap into high-fidelity sound. The collaboration between agencies Bear Meets Eagle On Fire and +61 ensures that the core message regarding environmental impact remains both compelling and intellectually resonant. By blending corporate responsibility with high-end post-production VFX, the initiative transcends standard advocacy, offering a sophisticated look at how technology can be reclaimed to harmonize the relationship between modern convenience and environmental sustainability.
