Rabanne x H&M
2023 Ad Campaign

Oct 2023
The Rabanne x H&M 2023 ad campaign masterfully bridges the divide between high-street accessibility and the avant-garde spirit of luxury fashion houses. Captured through the lens of photographer Craig McDean and directed by Xavier Dolan, the campaign leans into a surreal, arid aesthetic that elevates the collaborative collection to cinematic heights. Against a backdrop of vibrant, saturated desert dunes and deep orange sunset gradients, the editorial imagery feels both extraterrestrial and grounded in raw, tactile reality. The styling, helmed by Marie-Amélie Sauvé, emphasizes the collection’s signature high-shine metallic textures, sequined chainmail, and structured tailoring, which are rendered with striking clarity under precision studio strobe lighting. The result is a series of compositions that pulse with a futuristic, graphic energy, as models like Anok Yai and Rianne Van Rompaey inhabit an environment where playing cards drift through the air and reflective surfaces catch the light of an artificial horizon. With set design by Andy Hillman Studio creating a sense of geometric permanence amidst the shifting sands, the work reads as a sophisticated exploration of texture and light. This commercial project successfully avoids the pitfalls of standard collaboration marketing by favoring a highly stylized editorial approach that honors the legacy of the Rabanne house while pushing the boundaries of contemporary fashion storytelling.
