Description

For the Gucci Fall 2023 advertising campaign, creative director Sabato De Sarno strips away the noise to spotlight the house's foundational pillars through a lens of quiet, editorial minimalism. Captured by photographer and director David Sims, the campaign leans into a deliberate studio aesthetic defined by a recurring, muted olive-green backdrop that allows the collection’s tactile diversity to command total attention. The imagery functions as a masterclass in high-fashion portraiture, utilizing precise studio strobe lighting to emphasize the stark contrast between plush textures—such as mohair knits, intricate feather appliqués, and glossy patent leather—and the house’s iconic metallic hardware. Anchored by the poise of models Vittoria Ceretti, Aboubakar Konte, and Brando Erba, the campaign moves effortlessly between intimate close-ups and relaxed full-length silhouettes. Stylist Alastair Mckimm curates a wardrobe that balances heritage codes with contemporary ease, pairing signature monogram duffel bags and horsebit loafers with oversized tailoring and raw-hem denim. With hair by Paul Hanlon and makeup by Thomas de Kluyver, the visuals remain anchored in an understated sophistication, successfully centering the brand’s identity on the relationship between modern luxury craftsmanship and timeless, uncomplicated styling. This project effectively serves as a definitive statement of intent, proving that in a crowded industry, the most powerful creative impact is often found in the deliberate removal of the unnecessary.
