Description

Banana Republic’s 'San Francisco, 1978' project is a sprawling fashion campaign that channels a nostalgic, archival aesthetic through a documentary-style lens. Photographed by Sonia Szóstak under the creative direction of Michael Scanlon, the work traverses the city’s iconic urban topography and rugged coastal landscapes to build a tactile, cinematic narrative. The series makes extensive use of analogue film techniques and high-contrast monochrome tones, emphasising the interplay between industrial bridge architecture, steep city inclines, and the raw textures of the collection’s shearling, leather, and knitwear. Featuring models Andreea Diaconu, Giacomo Cavalli, and Paula Soares, the editorial leans into a candid, movement-driven approach. Throughout the imagery, soft natural light creates a contemplative mood, whether capturing figures against the crashing tides or framed within the interior of a vintage vehicle. Production was overseen by Roberto Sosa, with hair styling by Michał Bielecki and makeup by Dan Duran, ensuring a polished yet effortless look that grounds the collection in a grounded, atmospheric sense of place.
