Takay is a highly acclaimed artist and photographer whose distinctive vision has captivated audiences since the mid-1990s. After completing his degree in Japan, he made the transformative move to London, where he began to craft his own compelling narratives through the lens of his camera. His talent quickly garnered significant attention, securing editorial collaborations with influential publications such as i-D, The Face, and Arena by 1998. His innovative work attracted a prestigious roster of clients, including renowned fashion houses like Emporio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, Y-3, and Estee Lauder, among others. Takay has maintained a prolific presence in the fashion industry, contributing regularly to esteemed magazines including Vogue, L’Uomo, Vogue Homme, and Harper’s Bazaar Germany, alongside international editions of Vogue and Elle. A celebrated exhibitor, Takay has showcased his work in solo exhibitions across London, Tokyo, and New York, as well as participating in high-profile fashion exhibitions at major cultural institutions worldwide. Notably, his work featured in the Victoria & Albert Museum’s acclaimed exhibition "Men in Skirts," which toured to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2003. He was also part of the prestigious "Couture Chanel" exhibition at the National Museum of China and the internationally touring "The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier" from 2011 to 2016. Additionally, he contributed to the Met’s influential spring 2013 Costume Institute exhibition "PUNK: Chaos to Couture." In 2016, Takay published his first book, "ECHOS," at Book Marc in Tokyo, followed by "Fluence: Continuance of Yohji Yamamoto" in 2020, which included an exhibition at Akio Nagasawa Gallery in Aoyama, Japan. His latest work, "In Praise of Shadow: Homage to Tadao Ando," released in 2022, was accompanied by a showcase at Akio Nagasawa Gallery in Ginza. Expanding his artistic repertoire, Takay has successfully transitioned from still photography to film and motion picture, all while preserving his signature evocative and fluid style. Now residing between Japan and North America, he continues to pursue personal projects alongside his collaborations with esteemed clients. Takay is represented by TPI in Japan, Art Department in the USA, and Bloc Productions in Asia, solidifying his status as a leading figure in contemporary art and fashion photography.
