Meneer Bommel · Brand Identity

Crafting a brand identity for an alcoholic beverage startup requires a delicate balance between playful storytelling and professional market positioning. For Meneer Bommel, the design team at Within Design Studio has successfully navigated this terrain, creating a visual language that feels both established and artisanal. The project leverages a clean and minimalist aesthetic that centers on whimsical, hand-drawn ink illustrations, evoking the rustic charm of traditional Dutch cider production. By incorporating intricate character work—such as the recurring bearded figure harvesting apples—the brand identity leans into a narrative-driven approach that resonates with consumers seeking an authentic craft experience. The execution utilizes a mix of high-contrast macro studio photography and calculated CGI renders, ensuring that the metallic textures of the cans and the glass of the bottles remain the focal point of the visual narrative. This commercial work is anchored by a warm, earthy color palette and a consistent use of flowing, handwritten typography that ties the varied collateral, from shipping boxes to bottle caps, into a cohesive whole. Through careful attention to lighting, including both crisp studio strobe setups and dramatic natural light, the identity strikes a sophisticated chord, effectively elevating the cider beyond mere beverage packaging into a complete, curated brand experience that feels approachable, artistic, and distinctly contemporary.
