GQ China · A New Era of Menswear

GQ China defines the shifting landscape of modern style with A New Era of Menswear, a comprehensive editorial series that captures the intersection of architectural structure and contemporary fluidity. Photographer Xia Shuxi navigates a diverse visual spectrum, moving seamlessly between the gritty, sun-drenched sprawl of urban infrastructure and the deliberate, quiet restraint of a studio environment. The project leans into editorial minimalism, utilizing varied lighting techniques—from the dramatic, high-contrast intensity of low-key chiaroscuro to the clean, consistent brightness of high-key setups—to dissect the season's evolving silhouette. Fashion editor and stylist Jiacheng Wu orchestrates a sartorial narrative that balances the rigid, double-breasted traditions of classic tailoring against the experimental transparency of mesh fabrics and oversized, slouchy proportions. Through the composed presence of models Dylan Xue, Wu Guoqiang, Xie Binghuan, and Yuchen Zhao, the series achieves a cinematic quality, particularly where natural light interacts with iridescent textures and concrete surroundings. The result is a sophisticated exploration of identity in menswear, where the juxtaposition of soft textures and harsh, geometric backgrounds creates an evocative, high-end tension. This body of work underscores a commitment to precision and craft, solidifying a vision for the modern man that feels both timeless and aggressively current, expertly blending technical prowess with the raw, atmospheric storytelling characteristic of global fashion editorial production.
