Spring 2024 ‘The Marathon’ Ad Campaign

Jan 2024
For the Spring 2024 collection, The Marathon, Wales Bonner crafts an evocative dialogue between athletic rigor and sartorial grace. Under the vision of Creative Director Grace Wales Bonner, the campaign transcends traditional luxury fashion boundaries by casting world-class marathon champions Tamirat Tola and Yomif Kejelcha alongside a curated ensemble of talent. Captured by photographer Malick Bodian, the imagery moves fluidly between the gritty, nocturnal energy of Paris and the controlled intimacy of the studio. The project leans into a cinematic mood, utilizing both stark flash photography and the softer, more nuanced quality of 35mm film to emphasize the tactile nature of the garments, from crisp, structured wool blazers to intricate metallic detailing. Stylist Tom Guinness elevates the silhouettes through masterful layering, while hair by Cyndia Harvey and makeup by Lauren Parsons provide a polished finish that underscores the collection's editorial minimalism. Whether framing subjects against the architectural stone pillars of the city or the blurred motion of urban streets, the series maintains a symmetrical, deliberate focus. By blending these commercial portrait techniques with a deeply human, narrative-driven aesthetic, the campaign reinterprets the marathon runner not merely as an athlete, but as a central figure of contemporary elegance and poise. The resulting portfolio stands as a masterclass in modern luxury storytelling, where technical precision meets the raw, cinematic texture of analogue photography to define a new standard for the house.
