The Academy of Fine Arts Munich
Brand Identity

Jun 2017
The brand identity developed by Daily Dialogue for The Academy of Fine Arts Munich transforms the institutional canteen into a space of rigorous yet playful graphic experimentation. By grounding the project in a stark, high-contrast black and white palette, the agency leans into a raw, minimalist aesthetic that bridges the gap between corporate utility and the avant-garde spirit of an art school. The visual language utilizes a structured grid and bold, sans-serif typography to ensure legibility, yet this precision is deliberately disrupted through a series of abstract design choices. Chaotic hand-drawn marks, erratic strike-throughs, and spontaneous sketches overlay the structured information, creating a dynamic tension that challenges traditional signage conventions. These elements of information disruption appear across business cards, menu boards, and event posters, effectively turning mundane dining communications into a cohesive, conceptual brand experience. Through the use of vector layouts and intentional typography, the project maintains a professional corporate standard while simultaneously celebrating an authentic, unpolished energy. By balancing these clear information hierarchies with experimental ink and annotation techniques, the identity successfully reflects the multifaceted culture of the university, serving as a functional tool for the Kantine Kiosk while establishing a memorable, design-forward identity that feels both established and inherently rebellious.
