In this striking series for Side-note, titled Shabana Azeez, the aesthetic language of luxury fashion houses is reimagined through an evocative, editorial lens. The project moves beyond conventional commercial photography, opting instead for a deliberate, cinematic approach that prioritizes the interplay between light, shadow, and sculptural silhouette. By utilizing a mix of 35mm film and digital portraiture, the collection captures the model in various states of quiet focus, from the raw, urban edge of a chain-link fence backdrop to the minimalist precision of a studio environment. The styling highlights a range of textures, from high-contrast fringe elements to structured, oversized hooded jackets that lend the imagery a distinct, contemporary gravity. Throughout the work, natural light serves as a primary tool to define facial features and accentuate the matte and reflective surfaces of the garments. With hair styling by Koh, the compositions lean into a low-key chiaroscuro technique, fostering an intimate, often moody atmosphere that feels both timeless and grounded. The result is a sophisticated exploration of form that reads as a masterclass in editorial minimalism.
