H&M
Basic chic

Feb 2026
In the latest fashion campaign for H&M titled Basic Chic, the brand reasserts its mastery of high street fashion by stripping away the noise of complex styling to focus on the raw, tactile nature of everyday essentials. Through the expert lens of photographer Thomas Cooksey, this project leans into an uncompromising minimalist aesthetic, utilizing a bright, high-key lighting approach that renders each garment in crisp, honest detail. The visual narrative relies on a clean, studio-strobe foundation, allowing the heavy cotton textures of ribbed tanks and the structural integrity of charcoal overshirts to take center stage against seamless, neutral backdrops. Working alongside casting director Harley David, the team selected model Deepak Gupta to anchor the series, whose direct gaze and natural presence heighten the editorial quality of the portraits. The work successfully navigates the intersection of commercial reliability and high-fashion sensibility, proving that true style often resides in the careful calibration of silhouette and material. By prioritizing intentional composition and subtle, naturalistic posing, the campaign avoids the clutter of fast-fashion trends, instead offering a timeless look at modern masculine basics. With the precise support of Joe Burwin on hair styling, the project maintains a polished, cohesive visual rhythm, establishing a refined blueprint for contemporary retail storytelling that feels both accessible and distinctly elevated.
