Grow Rocks

Oct 2026
Grow Rocks is a fashion and lifestyle editorial project produced for Cake Magazine. Photographed by Luke Lovell, the series explores the intersection of the human form with organic, tactile elements, utilizing a mix of raw landscape settings and clean studio environments. The collection moves between high-contrast monochrome portraiture and warm, naturalistic colour photography. Across the images, Lovell plays with contrasting textures, juxtaposing skin against stone, water, foliage, and botanical details like anthurium flowers. The execution frequently incorporates analogue film techniques, with many frames featuring visible film borders, grain, and manual notations that lend a documentary sensibility to the fashion-focused imagery. Techniques such as chiaroscuro lighting and minimalist framing are used to highlight organic contours, while the project's consistent emphasis on light refraction and surface textures creates a contemplative, grounded aesthetic throughout the editorial narrative.
