Self-Portrait: Craftsmanship
Sep 2026
The Craftsmanship project from Self-Portrait offers an intimate look at the house's design process, bridging the gap between atelier production and final editorial presentation. Creative direction by designer Han Chong focuses on the tactile nature of luxury fashion, documenting the construction of structured tweed jackets, feathered slip dresses, and wool corsetry. The series leans into a clean, editorial aesthetic, utilizing natural light to highlight the intricate woven textures, metallic hardware, and delicate floral embellishments characteristic of the brand. Captured by photographer Hannah Rose, the work employs a mix of documentary-style fitting room shots and precise flat-lay arrangements of tailoring tools, spools of thread, and fabric swatches. Techniques such as analogue film photography and golden hour lighting are used to elevate the aesthetic, framing the garments against neutral, minimalist backdrops to draw focus to the technical tailoring and garment creation process.
