Bio
Viviane, born in Amsterdam and enriched by the vibrant experiences of her early childhood in Africa, has cultivated a unique artistic voice that seamlessly bridges fine art and fashion photography. Initially embarking on a journey in fashion design, she soon discovered her true passion for photography, culminating in a Master of Fine Arts from the esteemed Royal Academy in Arnhem. Renowned for her captivating visual narratives, Viviane’s work is characterized by her distinctive use of shadow, geometric forms, and the abstraction of the human body—elements deeply rooted in her childhood recollections of Africa. Her innovative approach has garnered her recognition in both the art and fashion worlds, with contributions to prestigious publications such as The Wall Street Journal, T Magazine, Le Monde M, POP, Dazed and Confused, and AnOther Magazine. Viviane has also collaborated on high-profile campaigns with luxury brands including Louis Vuitton, Armani, L’Oréal, Shiseido, Narciso Rodriguez, Stella McCartney, Hermès, Bottega Veneta, Phillip Lim, and Missoni, further solidifying her status as a versatile and sought-after artist. Her work has been showcased in prominent exhibitions worldwide, and she is the author of several acclaimed publications. Notably, she was awarded The Prix de Rome in 2007 and exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 2013, marking significant milestones in her career. Most recently, she presented her latest body of work, “Venus and Mercury,” at Huis Marseille in Amsterdam in 2020 and at the Grand & Petit Trianon in Versailles in 2019. Viviane continues to reside in Amsterdam, where she draws inspiration from her surroundings, continually evolving her artistic practice.
