The Colours of Morocco project for Sotheby's presents a series of fashion-led images that investigate the interplay between structural form and vivid pigment. Photographer Viviane Sassen and fashion editor Alexandra Carl collaborate to bridge the gap between documentary portraiture and abstract composition, utilizing Morocco's architectural history and natural environment as a foundational canvas. Each frame incorporates Sassen’s signature mixed-media techniques, weaving translucent color overlays, painted gestures, and layered textures directly into the photographic surface. The execution leans into a graphic aesthetic, contrasting the raw materiality of stone, dye vats, and textiles with saturated color fields and sharp, geometric shadow play.
