Bio

Luis Alberto Rodriguez is a dynamic Dominican-American artist whose journey began in the world of dance. Training rigorously throughout his childhood, he graduated from the prestigious LaGuardia High School before earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Juilliard School. For fifteen years, Rodriguez captivated audiences on stages around the globe, where his deep understanding of movement laid the groundwork for his evolution into photography. In his current practice, Rodriguez masterfully explores the nuances of the human form, employing his subjects’ bodies in both sculptural and abstract ways. His innovative approach has garnered recognition in the art community; notably, in 2017, he was awarded the Prix de Public and the American Vintage Prize at the renowned 32nd Hyères Festival of Fashion and Photography. The following spring, he was celebrated as one of Red Hook Labs' New Artists, a testament to his impactful vision and artistic voice. Rodriguez's work transcends borders and cultures, as seen in his 2020 publication, *People of the Mud*, which emerged from a transformative residency in Wexford, Ireland. This collection reflects his contemplation on the intricate interplay between individual identities and the cultures that shape them. Currently based in Berlin, Rodriguez continues to push the boundaries of his artistic expression, inviting viewers to engage with the profound stories that bodies can tell.
