Present Space investigates the complex intersection of environmental crisis and industrial evolution in its latest editorial publication, The Climate. Under the collaborative creative direction of Juan Duque and Nima Habibzadeh, the project functions as a visual essay that balances intellectual inquiry with raw, observational documentation. Photography by Zachary Handley serves as the anchor for this exploration, utilizing a diverse array of techniques—from high-contrast aerial drone footage and abstract long-exposure cityscapes to intimate, macro botanical studies—to dissect the fragile relationship between civilization and the natural world. The aesthetic leans into a sophisticated, minimalist editorial style, where carefully balanced typography and generous negative space provide a scholarly framework for the imagery. By juxtaposing the rigid, mechanical forms of jet engines and industrial rail infrastructure with the organic textures of rainforest buttress roots and rugged mountain topography, The Climate challenges viewers to reconsider our global footprint. Each layout reads as an academic exhibition, weaving together theoretical text—drawing on the writings of Byung-Chul Han and Walter Benjamin—with stark, monochromatic compositions.
