Sound is a visual exploration of musical form and materiality for Present Space. Through a series of editorial and artistic still life compositions, the project examines the tactile qualities of vintage instrumentation and performance equipment. Photographer Matthias Leidinger captures the mechanical complexity and textures of brass, woodwind, and string instruments, ranging from high-contrast monochrome studies to soft-lit, minimalist arrangements. Set designer Pierre-Alexandre Fillaire complements the focus on form by utilizing a diverse material palette, including textured fabrics, mottled surfaces, and deliberate light play to frame each instrument. The project leans into a minimalist aesthetic, utilizing techniques such as long exposure and chiaroscuro lighting to elevate the sculptural nature of the objects.
