Sound is a visual exploration of musical anatomy and performance, produced for Present Space. The series utilizes still life photography to deconstruct vintage instruments, ranging from woodwind components to intricate brass mechanics. Photographer Matthias Leidinger captures these objects through a lens of tactile minimalism, employing hard light and soft directional studio techniques to define their structural form. Set design by Pierre-Alexandre Fillaire complements the editorial focus, incorporating monochromatic palettes and textured backgrounds that emphasize the materiality of the subjects. The project balances static technical studies with dynamic, grainy long-exposure shots of performance. By isolating details like keywork, valves, and strings, the work leans into an artistic, analogue-inspired aesthetic.
