Description

The Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) identity project creates a cohesive visual system for the cultural institution, led by design agency Block. The work establishes a distinct aesthetic language that bridges the institute’s historic architectural roots—specifically the Perth Boys' and Girls' School building—with a contemporary, institutional outlook. The identity relies on a restrained monochromatic green and white palette, utilizing negative space and custom serif typography to convey a structured, professional tone. Across both physical collateral and digital platforms, the system employs modular grid layouts and geometric framing. The application of the identity includes large-scale outdoor signage, exhibition posters, and a web interface that organizes performance programs and event listings. By integrating microscopic imagery, architectural line diagrams, and photography of the site, the project functions as a flexible, minimal graphic framework for the organization's ongoing exhibition schedule.
