New Old Now explores themes of connection and movement in their latest project, Mama, Why The Butterflies?. Captured through a series of editorial compositions, the work features a diverse cast of performers moving through stark, industrial parking garages and low-key studio environments. The imagery leans into a desaturated palette to emphasise textures in the concrete surroundings and the subjects themselves. Photographer Hannah Scott-Stevenson documents the group across varying scales, from intimate, chiaroscuro-lit tableaux to expansive wide-angle portraits. Fashion styling by Bridie Gilbert contrasts sheer fabrics with structured tailoring, contributing to a muted, earthy aesthetic. The project employs analogue film techniques and natural light to maintain a grounded, atmospheric tone throughout.
