Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
Brand Identity

Apr 2026
For the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the brand identity project for the annual Museum Ball—or Bal du Musée—serves as a masterclass in balancing institutional heritage with modern, high-fashion editorial sensibilities. Developed by the design team at Caserne, the visual identity transcends the traditional constraints of event branding, leaning into a sophisticated, multi-layered aesthetic that bridges the gap between Fine Art and commercial design. The execution utilizes macro photography to highlight delicate botanical textures, juxtaposing these organic elements against the clean, structural lines of neoclassical architecture and sleek studio environments. The use of high-contrast serif typography, rendered in a bold, vibrant color palette of deep greens and saturated pinks, creates a rhythmic visual language that feels both timeless and urgent. Whether through the lens of cinematic lifestyle imagery capturing the electric atmosphere of the gala or the polished commercial photography featuring curated stationery and event collateral, the branding maintains a rigorous commitment to intentionality. Studio strobe lighting enhances the crispness of the collateral, while natural light is employed to ground the institution’s physical presence. By integrating surrealist narrative artwork with refined graphic design, Caserne has successfully crafted a brand identity that reads as an immersive cultural experience, reflecting the prestige and artistry inherent in one of Canada’s most storied institutions.
