Māori Futures is an expansive editorial project for Dazed Magazine, capturing a multi-generational narrative through an observational, documentary-style lens. Photographed by Erika Kamano, the series moves through diverse environments, from rugged volcanic sand dunes and coastal landscapes to intimate domestic interiors, exploring the intersection of contemporary youth culture and traditional craftsmanship. The imagery employs a clean, natural light approach to highlight the textures of cultural artifacts, such as woven cloaks and traditional facial tattoos, alongside modern fashion ensembles. Fashion styling by Zara Mirkin and hair by Matt Benns complement the subjects' expressive, often cinematic postures within these outdoor and historic settings. By blending analogue film techniques with varied compositional styles, the work presents a thoughtful look at heritage and identity.
