Dazed Magazine: Great Expectations

Great Expectations is a multi-layered fashion editorial commissioned by Dazed Magazine. Captured by photographer Camille Summers-Valli, the project functions as a visual narrative that shifts between high-contrast studio portraiture and candid, observational street scenes. By weaving together disparate environments—from austere, dimly lit interiors to sun-drenched urban exteriors—the work explores the interplay between avant-garde styling and domestic realism. The series leans heavily into a gritty, analogue film aesthetic, utilizing natural light and low-key lighting techniques to emphasize the raw textures of satin, knitwear, and tailoring. Fashion editor Andra Amelia Buhai directs the wardrobe, while set designer Emma Roach constructs diverse settings ranging from ornate bedrooms to abstract, minimalist backdrops. With contributions from movement director Yagamoto and casting director Sarah Small, the editorial captures a series of staged, theatrical interactions.
