Balmain
Fall 2023 Men's Ad Campaign

Sep 2023
The Balmain Fall 2023 Men's Ad Campaign is a masterclass in high-fashion editorial storytelling, reflecting the vision of Creative Director Olivier Rousteing. Captured through the sharp, cinematic lens of photographer Thibaut Grevet, the campaign leans into a sophisticated, minimalist aesthetic that prioritizes structural integrity and bold color blocking. The visual narrative utilizes studio strobe lighting and intentional motion blur to elevate the collection's futuristic accessories, particularly the sculptural sneakers, which are treated with the same reverence as the house's signature tailored blazers and ornate berets. Set against a recurring, muted emerald green backdrop, the work explores a tension between sharp graphic lines and ethereal, dreamlike textures. With set design by Philipp Haemmerle, the campaign achieves a surreal, high-contrast atmosphere that emphasizes the interplay between matte fabrics and shimmering crystal embellishments. Casting, managed by Anita Elizabeth Bitton, features models including Leelou Laridan, Xue Huizi, JeeHoon Bae, and Ottawa Kwami, who embody the refined, avant-garde spirit of the collection. The synthesis of medium format techniques and directional lighting produces a series of portraits that feel both intimate and otherworldly. By balancing architectural tailoring with experimental, high-speed freeze imagery, the campaign successfully positions the luxury house at the intersection of classical craftsmanship and modern, conceptual art, delivering a campaign that feels simultaneously timeless and pointedly forward-looking.
