Description

The brand identity for Material Environments, an exhibition hosted at The Tetley, masterfully bridges the gap between raw artistic process and refined corporate aesthetics. Designed by Saul Studio, the identity leans into a minimalist and editorial style that prioritizes clarity, utilizing a clean, sans-serif typography that feels both contemporary and functional. By integrating earthy, tactile elements—such as molded grey clay spheres and herringbone wood flooring—the project creates a cohesive visual narrative that reflects the exhibition's core focus on live production and materiality. The graphic design work, anchored by a sophisticated olive-green palette, maintains a strict visual hierarchy that ensures the logistical information remains accessible while upholding a high-end gallery feel. The project utilizes long exposure techniques and high-key lighting to capture the movement and atmospheric scale of the environment, turning simple architectural details like door frames and lattice railings into artistic statements. By balancing the organic nature of the sculptural installations with the precision of institutional branding, the design team has curated a spatial experience that feels intentionally quiet yet deeply immersive. This identity succeeds by refusing to overcomplicate the visual landscape, instead allowing the carefully balanced interplay between soft natural light, tactile textures, and modern type to communicate the gravity of the artistic works on display.
