The Classicists is a jewellery editorial project for Something About Rocks that explores the interplay between fine adornment and the human form. Through a series of clean, minimalist compositions, photographer Bex Day captures intricate gemstone rings and chain necklaces using techniques ranging from macro photography to layered monochrome collages. The series leans into a tactile aesthetic, incorporating analogue film, grainy textures, and multiple exposure techniques to create a sense of nostalgia. Stylised studio imagery is complemented by dramatic low-key lighting and shadow play, grounding the sculptural quality of the jewellery. Production features hair styling by Takuya Morimoto, makeup by Sandra Cooke, and manicures by Nichole Williams, with models Kirandeep Chahal and Toto Matoch appearing in the portrait elements.
