SKIMS
Spring 2025 Ad Campaign

Apr 2025
The Spring 2025 campaign for SKIMS leans into a refined intersection of athletic prowess and commercial minimalism, masterfully blurring the lines between high-end fashion and functional sportswear. Featuring NBA star Donovan Mitchell as the primary model, the imagery utilizes a disciplined, monochromatic visual language to highlight the collection's focus on form and fit. Photographer Eric Johnson frames Mitchell against a series of stark, seamless studio backdrops, employing deliberate studio strobe techniques to create a clean, high-key aesthetic that emphasizes the athlete's physique. This portrait-heavy approach trades complex art direction for a raw, editorial minimalism that keeps the spotlight entirely on the garments. By balancing the grit of basketball-inspired props with the deliberate neutrality of a grey and white color palette, the campaign achieves a polished, modern look. The integration of high-key lighting and natural light cues creates a soft, consistent shadow play, adding depth to the otherwise flat, minimalist studio environment. Throughout the series, the focus remains firmly on the technical execution of the apparel, with every detail—from the subtle branding on the waistbands to the strategic posture of the subject—carefully considered. The resulting commercial work feels both accessible and aspirational, successfully positioning the brand within the competitive landscape of men's lifestyle and loungewear through a sophisticated, stripped-back visual narrative.
