SKIMS
Spring 2024 Swim Ad Campaign

Apr 2024
For the SKIMS Spring 2024 swim ad campaign, the brand pushes into a sharp, minimalist aesthetic that prioritizes the raw physicality of its latest collection. Under the vision of creative director Kim Kardashian, the imagery strips away environmental noise, opting for a controlled studio strobe environment where the focus remains tethered to the product. Through the lens of photographer Nick Knight, the campaign leans into a high-gloss editorial sensibility, utilizing a monochromatic tan backdrop to make the vibrant red and intricate snakeskin-print textiles command full attention. The styling, helmed by Carine Roitfeld, utilizes a deliberate wet-hair aesthetic that adds a tactile, lived-in quality to the otherwise polished, commercial portraiture. This fusion of clean composition and textured detail effectively bridges the gap between high fashion editorial and functional lifestyle photography. By utilizing subtle directional lighting, the series highlights the technical precision of the swimwear cuts, specifically the angular necklines and complex strap configurations that define the season. As Kim Kardashian steps in as both the creative lead and the campaign talent, the work reinforces a singular, cohesive identity for the label. The result is a masterclass in modern minimalism, where the combination of portrait-focused framing and sophisticated styling allows the garment design to take center stage, proving that restraint in production design can often generate the most powerful, industry-defining visual impact.
