Self Service
Issue 64

Mar 2026
Issue 64 of Self Service magazine stands as a masterclass in modern editorial photography, blending conceptual rigour with a sharp, high-fashion sensibility. Through the lens of photographer Camille Vivier, the issue channels a distinct cinematic atmosphere that balances minimalist studio precision with avant-garde styling. The creative direction, curated by fashion editor Camille Bidault Waddington, explores the interplay of bold primary colours, particularly a recurring, punchy red, against stark backdrops and unconventional props. Whether capturing the raw, textured intensity of a close-up portrait or the polished silhouette of tailored leather and pinstriped tailoring, the visuals lean into a sophisticated tension between the subject and their environment. Techniques such as studio strobe lighting and natural light are deployed with deliberate intent to craft deep shadows and clean, angular compositions. Significant depth is added by the collaborative efforts of hair stylist Ramona Eschbach and makeup artist Porsche Poon, whose work frames the subjects with evocative, precise detail. From the deliberate use of analogue film aesthetics to the sculptural framing of models like Coco Palmer and Pauline Schubach, the project avoids the superficial in favour of a cohesive, high-contrast narrative. The result is a series of images that feel both grounded in timeless luxury and strikingly contemporary, proving that even within a rigid studio framework, creative alchemy remains the defining force of visual storytelling.
