Marfa’s editorial feature on chess grandmaster Judit Polgár blends contemporary portraiture with archival research. The project leans into an editorial aesthetic, pairing modern photography with a documentary approach that explores the history of the sport through personal accounts and tournament records. The layout uses clean, minimalist typography and a structured, grid-based presentation to frame the narrative across multiple spreads. Photography by Valeria Herklotz employs a monochrome, analogue film technique to create a cinematic and grainy texture throughout the feature. The visual journey moves between intimate, soft-lit portraits of Polgár and wider documentarian frames, with hair styling by Tobias Sagner and makeup by Ischrak Nitschke providing a polished, quiet focus to the imagery.
