Esquire China
Stillness, Worn

Feb 2026
Stillness, Worn for Esquire China serves as a masterclass in contemporary menswear, bridging the gap between urban kineticism and the static grace of studio portraiture. Through the lens of photographer Xia Shuxi, the project explores the interplay of texture and tailoring, capturing a series of high-fashion narratives that feel both timeless and urgent. The styling, curated by fashion editor Zhi Yong, leans into editorial minimalism and sophisticated layering, where structured leather, velvet, and heavy wool serve as the primary conduits for expression. Using a combination of low-key chiaroscuro and soft, beauty-focused lighting, the imagery emphasizes the sharp lines of modern garments against neutral backdrops, allowing the subjects—including model Zhichuan Hu—to exist in a state of quiet, contemplative movement. With hair artistry by Xiang Zi providing a clean, groomed aesthetic, the campaign utilizes live-action techniques and a distinct monochromatic palette to transform standard street-style into cinematic visual poetry. Whether blending vibrant nylon pullovers with vintage-inspired trousers or utilizing the dramatic weight of braided velvet blazers, the project synthesizes lifestyle influences with commercial precision. Each frame reinforces the strength of composition, successfully channeling a refined sensibility that defines the current landscape of high-end editorial photography while highlighting the nuanced evolution of menswear silhouettes in an increasingly diverse fashion ecosystem.
