MICRO / MACRO for Atmos Magazine is a visual exploration that bridges the gap between biological curiosity and human portraiture. Photographer Elizaveta Porodina employs extreme macro techniques to document insect anatomy, placing subjects like praying mantises, beetles, and damselflies against highly reflective, translucent, and iridescent surfaces. The imagery leans into a surreal, avant-garde aesthetic, utilizing sharp detail and tactile depth to examine the relationship between the natural world and the human form. Throughout the series, the production team integrates elements of high-fashion beauty editorial, incorporating shimmering pigments, metallic makeup, and aquatic motifs. With hair styling by Amidat Giwa and makeup by Lynski, the subjects are transformed to mirror the organic textures of their insect counterparts. Casting direction by Chouaib Arif facilitates this interplay, resulting in a moody, atmospheric study that balances saturated color palettes with deliberate, low-key lighting.
