5ELEVEN Magazine’s 'French New Wave' project is a sprawling fashion editorial that leans into the mood and aesthetic tropes of mid-century European arthouse cinema. Photographed by Edwin S Freyer, the series captures its subjects across a variety of urban backdrops, ranging from quiet cobblestone alleyways and bistro terraces to classic balconies overlooking cityscape architecture. Working with stylist Alton Hetariki, the imagery prioritizes tactile material and high-contrast visuals. The project makes extensive use of monochrome grading and analogue film techniques to build a documentary-style atmosphere, frequently utilizing natural light and shallow depth of field to ground the models in their environment. Casting by Lewis Waters features Carol Levergger, Matteo Baez, and Sasha Cortesi in compositions that emphasize a contemplative, introspective quality. Makeup artist Sarah Wandee rounds out the creative team, focusing on subtle detailing that complements the overall moody, cinematic aesthetic.
