Bio
Mikael Jansson is a visionary photographer whose journey began in the vibrant streets of Stockholm during the late 1970s. As a teenager, he immersed himself in the world of music, capturing the essence of leading musicians visiting the city. It was during this formative period that he assisted renowned photographer Carl Johann Ronn, gaining invaluable insights into the rich histories and limitless possibilities of photography. In the mid-1980s, fueled by ambition, Jansson made the bold move to New York City, where he spent two transformative years assisting Richard Avedon. Notably, he contributed to the darkroom printing of Avedon’s iconic exhibition, *In the American West* (1985). This experience profoundly shaped Jansson’s artistic vision, instilling in him a deep curiosity and reverence for the characters he encounters—a hallmark of his work for over four decades. Since the 1990s, Jansson has created a remarkable body of work that defines contemporary photography, collaborating with leading publications and fashion houses. His groundbreaking 1998 portfolio in Dutch magazine, featuring eighty-two nude portraits accompanied by fashion credits reminiscent of Andy Warhol, garnered international acclaim and marked a pivotal moment in his career. Jansson's photographic signature shines both in studio settings and on location, with his enduring images gracing the pages of esteemed publications such as *Vogue*, *Interview*, *Vogue Paris*, *Vogue Italia*, *British Vogue*, *Arena Homme +*, *L’Uomo Vogue*, *Harper’s Bazaar*, *Visionnaire*, *W Magazine*, *AnOther Magazine*, and *Love*. His impressive clientele includes prestigious names in fashion, luxury, and beauty, such as Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, and Tiffany & Co. His contributions have been featured at prominent venues including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Fotografiska and Moderna Museet in Stockholm, ICA in Boston, Saatchi Gallery in London, and Kulturhuset in Stockholm. In addition to his photographic endeavors, Jansson is the author of three critically acclaimed books: *Mikael Jansson* (2000), *Speed of Life* (2007), *Iggy Pop* (2010), and *Witnesses* (2018).
