Matthew Sprout's journey into the world of photography is a testament to the unexpected paths that creativity can take. Hailing from the quaint town of Elkton, Maryland, he initially pursued a degree in Graphic Design at a local community college. It was during this time that he enrolled in a black and white film and digital photography course, a decision that would prove transformative. As he juggled his busy soccer schedule, Matthew discovered photography, and in his own words, “it was like a light bulb turned on.” Though he had previously identified more as a jock than an artist, this revelation ignited a passion that propelled him to New York, where he honed his skills at the prestigious School of Visual Arts. Now, over a decade later, Matthew has established himself as a prominent figure in fashion and beauty photography. His signature style is characterized by a masterful interplay of light and a meticulously curated color palette, which imbue his images with a contemporary sophistication. His work has graced the pages of esteemed publications such as Allure, Architectural Digest, InStyle, Interview, Kinfolk, Porter, Russh, Sunday Times Style, T Singapore, Teen Vogue, and Vogue—across its various international editions. In addition to his editorial acclaim, Matthew has collaborated with an impressive roster of brands, including Barneys, Carolina Herrera, Club Monaco, Halston Heritage, Ralph Lauren, and Zara, among others. Each project reflects his keen eye for detail and an innate ability to connect with the essence of fashion. Residing in Brooklyn, NY, Matthew continues to push the boundaries of his craft, capturing the ever-evolving nature of beauty and style in today’s world. His journey from a small-town athlete to a sought-after photographer illustrates not only his talent but also the transformative power of following one’s passion.
