Bio
Matt Jones is a distinguished photographer based between New York and Woodstock, where he resides with his wife and two children. Born in London and raised in a creatively charged environment as the son of renowned i-D publisher and Creative Director Terry Jones, Matt experienced firsthand the duality of artistic legacy. While initially influenced by the world of graphics, it was photography that ultimately captivated his imagination and became his true calling. At just 19, Matt made his debut in i-D magazine with a bold photographic contribution featuring a fully nude Damien Hirst. Reflecting on that pivotal moment, he recalls, “It was a nerve-wracking experience, but the idea was mine, and Damien was incredibly open to it.” This early success paved the way for a remarkable career, leading him to shoot his first cover for i-D less than a year later. Since then, he has amassed an impressive portfolio, including 20 iconic covers for the magazine. Matt's artistic vision has also graced the pages of esteemed publications such as French Vogue, L’uomo Vogue, French Elle, The New York Times, V Magazine, and GQ. He has captured the essence of numerous high-profile personalities, including Barack Obama, Beyoncé, Joaquin Phoenix, Rihanna, Cate Blanchett, and David Beckham, as well as the celebrated artist Louise Bourgeois. In the realm of advertising, Matt has collaborated with prestigious brands such as Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Y-3, Moschino, Abercrombie & Fitch, The GAP, Nordstrom, MAC Cosmetics, and Sephora, showcasing his versatility and keen eye for style. His artistic contributions have been recognized through solo exhibitions at Colette in Paris and Oblong Gallery in London, where his work continues to resonate with audiences and collectors alike. Matt Jones’s photography is not just a reflection of his subjects; it is a testament to a lifelong passion that bridges personal legacy with modern artistry.
