WWD
Terminal a Runway

May 2026
In the series Terminal a Runway, WWD masterfully bridges the gap between high-concept luxury fashion houses and the iconic mid-century modern backdrop of the TWA Flight Center. This striking fashion editorial leans into the stark, sweeping architectural curves of the terminal, creating a deliberate tension between industrial minimalism and the tactile complexity of the garments. With expert photography by Tiffany Nicholson, the project captures a series of silhouettes—from oversized, structured trench coats to delicate lace-trimmed slip dresses—that seem perfectly at home within the space’s vaulted, futuristic geometry. The editorial aesthetic is anchored by natural light, which gently defines the textures of tweed, leather, and satin while casting dramatic shadows across the signature red carpeting. Fashion editor Alex Badia curates an eclectic, high-contrast wardrobe, punctuated by bold pops of turquoise and mint that challenge traditional palettes, while model Alay Deng brings a calm, composed energy to every frame. Supported by precise grooming from hair stylist Shin Arima and makeup artist Akiko Owada, the imagery excels through its interplay of negative space and movement. Whether focusing on the fluid motion of fringe or the rigid geometry of a button-down train, this editorial remains a compelling study of form, framing each ensemble as a sculptural entity within a historic, high-design landscape.
