WWD’s Taking Shape editorial series highlights avant-garde fashion through a series of sculptural portraits. Featuring model Debra Shaw, the project explores architectural silhouettes, ranging from voluminous pleated gowns to metallic gold bodices and intricate, heavily embellished headpieces. Photographer Alex Black and fashion editor Alex Badia collaborated on the series, utilizing varied studio lighting to emphasize the texture and structure of each garment. The minimalist aesthetic is supported by hair styling by Yumiko Hikage and makeup artistry by Jennifer Le Corre. With casting by Jussi Vuorenlehto, the project maintains a consistent focus on form and detail across its editorial, vertical-format images.
