Rooted Rituals is a beauty editorial feature for Vogue Scandinavia that leans into avant-garde conceptual aesthetics. The project focuses on intricate, high-fashion styling and macro photography to explore the intersection of organic textures and defined cosmetic art. Photographer Arved Colvin-Smith employs clean, crisp lighting across the series to highlight both raw botanical elements, such as mushroom headpieces and leaf-based accessories, and meticulously applied graphic makeup. Hair stylist Dejan Cekanovic and makeup artist Linda Öhrström work in concert to create these sculptural portraits, often incorporating elements like gold facial ornaments, adhesive tape, and vivid, high-contrast palettes against neutral backgrounds. Retouching by Suzanne Tak maintains a polished finish across the editorial, which leverages techniques like analogue film and macro photography to emphasize fine skin details and sharp contours.
