Tim Hortons: The Away Game
Sep 2019
The Away Game is a documentary project for Tim Hortons that chronicles the cross-cultural journey of a group of Kenyan ice hockey players. The film explores the intersection of personal ambition and sport, capturing the camaraderie of the athletes as they engage with the game in a setting far removed from traditional ice rinks. Produced with a live-action technique, the narrative leans into natural light and observational camera angles to frame the players' stories within their own urban environment in Nairobi. The visual approach prioritizes a clean, documentary aesthetic that documents the connection between the athletes and their sport. The project was developed by Zulu Alpha Kilo, which handled the creative, production, and post-production duties. Sound design and music composition were provided by Eggplant Music & Sound, with media strategy by UM and public relations managed by Citizen Relations Canada.
