SHADOWPLAY Magazine presents KUSAMARAMA, an editorial project that explores high-fashion aesthetics through a lens of graphic surrealism. Photographed by Ferry van der Nat, the series features model Asako Sato in a sequence of studio and staged environments that lean into tactile textures and bold chromatic arrangements. Stylist Leendert Sonnevelt creates sculptural silhouettes, utilizing pleated fabrics, sheer overlays, and intricate layering to establish a strong visual rhythm. The imagery incorporates deliberate graphic motifs, ranging from rhythmic polka dots to painted skin details, which reference the artistic influence central to the project's concept. Hair and makeup by Sanne Schoofs provide a defined, minimalist finish to the editorial, with casting curated by William Lhoest. The project employs both analogue film grain and direct flash techniques to alternate between raw, textured compositions and clean, high-contrast portraits.
