Numero China

Premiere: Act III
Date

May 2026

Description

Premiere: Act III for Numero China represents a masterclass in editorial minimalism, blending the structured elegance of luxury fashion with a surreal, performative edge. Through a series of high-fashion portrait sequences, the project challenges the traditional boundaries of the studio environment, utilizing studio strobe lighting to emphasize tactile textures—from voluminous feathers and fringe to architectural, padded shoulders. The creative direction leans heavily into a conceptual narrative, where the recurring motifs of bright red clown noses and strategically placed balloons serve as playful, jarring interruptions to an otherwise composed and austere aesthetic. Model Birte Carolin Von Knoblauch moves with calculated intention, guided by movement director Breckyn Drescher to create images that often feature meta-commentary on the photographic process itself, frequently incorporating professional camera gear as both a tool and a sculptural element within the frame. Styled by Johanna Bouvier and Klaire Chen, the collection of looks oscillates between sharp, tailored suiting and whimsical, voluminous layers, creating a dynamic visual rhythm. With clean, even lighting and a restricted color palette of white, grey, and vibrant pops of red and yellow, the work retains a cinematic quality that elevates the fashion editorial format. This project is a refined exercise in creative tension, proving that luxury fashion can maintain its structural integrity while embracing bold, imaginative whimsy.
