Mame Kurogouchi
Fall 2023 Ad Campaign

Sep 2023
For the Mame Kurogouchi Fall 2023 ad campaign, the brand leans into a masterclass of editorial minimalism that elevates the luxury fashion house aesthetic through sharp, sculptural precision. Photographed by Yuichiro Noda, the series captures an intricate interplay between human form and architectural garment design, with the collection’s complex, layered textiles serving as the primary narrative. By utilizing studio strobe lighting to maintain a consistent, high-key backdrop, Noda allows the rich, earthy palette of mocha, rust, and mustard to command the viewer's attention. The styling by Shotaro Yamaguchi plays with geometric rhythm, emphasizing the tactile, fuzzy quality of heavy-knit coats alongside the elongated, fluid silhouettes of the brand's signature striped pieces. Model Mona Kawasaki embodies a grounded, contemplative presence, moving between formal, standing portraiture and more relaxed, high-angle compositions that highlight the technical craftsmanship of the weave. With essential contributions from hair stylist Mikio and makeup artist Suzuki, the look remains clean and understated, ensuring the focus never strays from the structural integrity of the fabric itself. This campaign avoids extraneous set dressing in favor of a pure, commercial focus on texture and pattern, perfectly aligning with Mame Kurogouchi’s reputation for blending traditional textile depth with a contemporary, high-fashion sensibility. Each frame functions as a study in form, proving that when the clothing possesses enough character, the most effective studio environment is the one that simply gets out of the way.
