For the Anthemoessa project featured in Crash Magazine, photographer Chantal Elisabeth Ariëns crafts a hauntingly beautiful visual narrative that exists at the intersection of fine art and high-end editorial storytelling. Drawing heavily on the aesthetics of analogue film and the deliberate use of low-key chiaroscuro lighting, the series feels both ancient and entirely contemporary. Through the lens of 35mm and medium format film, the imagery explores themes of identity, organic artifice, and the ethereal nature of the human form. Chiara Ficola, serving as fashion editor and stylist, curates a series of tactile, sculptural elements—ranging from bleached sea coral to primitive headpieces—that interact with the subjects to evoke a sense of surreal, dreamlike mystery. The collaborative efforts of Massa YAHIRO in hair and makeup further anchor these portraits in a raw, textured reality, where soft-focus techniques and heavy grain soften the line between figure and environment.
