Chantal Elisabeth Ariëns (b. 1968, Heerlen, the Netherlands) is a dynamic Amsterdam-based artist whose multifaceted career has spanned dance, photography, and fine art. A graduate of the esteemed ballet academy in Tilburg, Ariëns began her artistic journey as a professional dancer and photo model, eventually transitioning to work as an assistant for renowned photographers. At the age of 30, she embraced her passion for photography, quickly establishing herself in the industry with contributions to prestigious international magazines such as Marie Claire, Red, and Cosmopolitan. Since 2017, Ariëns has expanded her artistic repertoire to include personal projects that delve into the depths of her creative vision. In early 2020, she embarked on a significant collaboration with Kahmann Gallery in Amsterdam, followed by a partnership with Ira Stehmann Fine Art in Munich in October 2022. Chantal's work is deeply rooted in her exploration of craftsmanship, emerging from a meditative state that allows her to tap into the subconscious mind. Her projects focus on the intricate relationship between emotion and memory, revealing how these elements are intertwined within our psyche. Utilizing the traditional technique of Photopolymer Etching, Ariëns returns to the fundamentals of printmaking. This labor-intensive process not only demands meticulous attention to detail but also yields prints that resonate with profound depth and texture, inviting viewers to engage with the layered complexities of her artistic expression.
